Wikipedia - BK Jūrmala
BK Jūrmala is a professional basketball club based in Jūrmala, Latvia. It is currently playing in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, previously have played in Latvian Basketball League (since 2005) and Baltic Basketball League. The club was founded in 1999 and until 2006 was known as the I.O.S./Jūrmala, then Jūrmalas Sports/Fēnikss.
Het basketbalteam van Jurmula/Fenikss is een professionele basketbalclub uit de Letse stad Jurmala. Het team is gesticht in 2009 en speelt in de Letse Basketbal Liga (LBL). De thuisarena van het team is het Jurmala Sports Centre.
Jurmula/Fenikss is een relatief jonge club, maar heeft in korte tijd al een aantal successen geboekt. Het team werd in 2013 kampioen van de LBL en won in 2014 de Letse beker. Ook in Europees verband heeft Jurmula/Fenikss al goede resultaten geboekt. In 2014 bereikte het team de halve finales van de Baltic Basketball League.
De selectie van Jurmula/Fenikss bestaat voornamelijk uit Letse spelers, aangevuld met enkele buitenlandse spelers. De belangrijkste spelers van het team zijn de guards Andrejs Mizis en Andrejs Zubacs, de forwards Rolands Freimanis en Dairis Bertans en de center Kristaps Porzingis.
Jurmula/Fenikss is een ambitieus team dat streeft naar de top van het Letse basketbal. Het team hoopt in de toekomst ook succesvol te worden in Europees verband.
