The 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup (Spanish: Copa Mundial Femenina Sub-20 de la FIFA Costa Rica 2022) was the 10th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, the biennial international women's youth football championship contested by the under-20 national teams of the member associations of FIFA, since its inception in 2002 as the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship (the age limit was raised from 19 to 20 in 2008). The tournament was held in Costa Rica, which would have hosted the 2020 edition before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the second time that Costa Rica hosted a FIFA tournament after the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Japan were the defending champions. The opening match played at the tournament was contested between Costa Rica and Australia at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, San José. The final was held on 28 August 2022. For the third time in FIFA football tournaments, and the first time for the youth tournaments, there was a back-to-back final between the two same teams. The final was also the first time that two consecutive finals of a World Cup between the two same teams also won by the same team.
This was the final edition to feature 16 teams before expanded to 24 teams in 2024 in Colombia.
Het WK U20 voor vrouwen is een internationaal voetbaltoernooi voor vrouwen onder de 20 jaar. Het toernooi wordt om de twee jaar georganiseerd door de FIFA. Het eerste toernooi werd in 2002 gehouden in Canada.
Het toernooi bestaat uit 16 teams, die verdeeld zijn over vier groepen. De teams spelen in een round-robin-formaat, waarbij de beste twee teams uit elke groep doorgaan naar de knock-outfase. De knock-outfase bestaat uit kwartfinales, halve finales en een finale.
Het WK U20 voor vrouwen is een belangrijk toernooi voor jonge voetbalsters. Het toernooi biedt hen de kans om internationale ervaring op te doen en zich te meten met de beste spelers ter wereld. Het toernooi is ook een belangrijke stap in de ontwikkeling van jonge spelers naar het vrouwenvoetbal op het hoogste niveau.
De huidige kampioen is Spanje, dat in 2022 het toernooi won. Het toernooi van 2024 zal worden gehouden in Costa Rica.
