SABA Championship

The SABA Championship is a basketball tournament for national teams organized by the South Asia Basketball Association, a sub-zone of the FIBA Asia. It serves as a qualifier for various FIBA Asia events such as the FIBA Asia Championship and the FIBA Asia Cup.

Starting immediately at the end of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, a new qualification format for 2021 FIBA Asia Cup, and for every continental championships thereafter, has been introduced, wherein home and away games will be done during the pre-qualifiers in order to determine the participants for the main qualifiers that will battle for the 16 berths of the continental championships.

**SABA Championship**

Het SABA Championship is een jaarlijks basketbaltoernooi voor de beste teams van de Nederlandse Antillen. Het toernooi wordt georganiseerd door de Surinaamse Antiliaanse Basketbal Associatie (SABA) en vindt plaats in het Erwin van der Lugt-sportcomplex in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Het SABA Championship werd voor het eerst gehouden in 1995 en is sindsdien uitgegroeid tot een belangrijk evenement op de basketbalkalender van de regio. Het toernooi biedt de deelnemende teams de kans om zich te meten met de beste van de beste en zich te kwalificeren voor internationale competities.

De teams die aan het SABA Championship deelnemen, worden ingedeeld in twee poules van vier teams. De beste twee teams van elke poule plaatsen zich voor de halve finales. De winnaars van de halve finales spelen de finale, terwijl de verliezers strijden om de derde plaats.

Het SABA Championship is een prestigieus evenement dat veel aandacht trekt van de lokale bevolking en de media. Het toernooi staat bekend om zijn spannende wedstrijden, hoog niveau van basketbal en feestelijke sfeer.
