Wikipedia - Primera División (Paraguay)

De Liga Paraguaya is de hoogste voetbalcompetitie van Paraguay en deze competitie wordt georganiseerd door de Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol. Twaalf clubs strijden in de Liga Paraguaya om de landstitel.

Het eerste landskampioenschap van Paraguay werd gespeeld in 1906. Vanaf 1941 was de Liga Paraguaya een profcompetitie. Sinds 2008 is de Liga Paraguaya verdeeld in twee seizoenshelften, de Apertura en de Clausura. Elke seizoenshelft levert een winnaar op en aan het eind van het seizoen spelen beide winnaars tegen elkaar om de landstitel. Wanneer een club beide seizoenshelften wint, is het automatisch landskampioen.

**Paraguay - División Profesional**

De División Profesional, ook bekend als de Primera División Paraguaya, is de hoogste voetbaldivisie in Paraguay. De competitie werd opgericht in 1906 en wordt georganiseerd door de Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol (APF).

**Formaat**

De División Profesional bestaat uit 12 teams die een dubbel round-robin-systeem spelen, waarbij elk team twee keer tegen elk ander team speelt. De kampioen wordt het team met de meeste punten aan het einde van het seizoen. De nummers 2 en 3 kwalificeren zich voor de Copa Libertadores, terwijl de nummer 4 en 5 zich kwalificeren voor de Copa Sudamericana. De onderste twee teams degraderen naar de División Intermedia.

**Geschiedenis**

De División Profesional is een van de oudste voetbalcompetities in Zuid-Amerika. Het werd opgericht in 1906 met slechts vijf teams. Sindsdien is de competitie uitgebreid en spelen er nu 12 teams.

Olimpia is het meest succesvolle team in de geschiedenis van de División Profesional, met 46 titels. Cerro Porteño is het tweede meest succesvolle team met 34 titels.

**Internationale prestaties**

Paraguayaanse teams hebben op internationaal niveau succes geboekt. Olimpia heeft drie keer de Copa Libertadores gewonnen, terwijl Cerro Porteño eenmaal de titel won. Guarani heeft de Copa Sudamericana eenmaal gewonnen.
