The Southern League is an amateur status league competition run by Southern Football and Mainland Football for Association football clubs located in the South Island of New Zealand. It is at the second level of New Zealand Football behind the national association based New Zealand National League, and the highest level of club based football available to teams within the region.

**Nieuwe-Zeeland - Southern League**

De Southern League is een Nieuw-Zeelandse voetbalcompetitie voor clubs uit het zuidelijke deel van het land. De competitie werd opgericht in 1960 en wordt sindsdien jaarlijks gehouden.

De Southern League bestaat uit twee divisies:

* **Division 1:** De hoogste divisie van de Southern League, bestaande uit de beste clubs uit het zuiden van Nieuw-Zeeland.
* **Division 2:** Een lagere divisie met clubs die nog in ontwikkeling zijn of net zijn gepromoveerd naar de Southern League.

De winnaar van Division 1 promoveert naar de New Zealand Football Championship, de hoogste voetbalcompetitie van Nieuw-Zeeland. De onderste clubs van Division 1 degraderen naar Division 2.

De Southern League is een belangrijke regionale competitie die lokale talenten ontwikkelt en een weg biedt naar de nationale voetbalcompetitie. De competitie staat bekend om zijn snelle tempo, fysieke spel en gepassioneerde supporters.
